Sick Pay - Statutory
Staff Benefits - a generous discount scheme for personal purchases.
Living in climbing and walking paradise.

Company Profile

Joe Brown was considered the foremost rock climber and mountaineer of his generation, and perhaps the greatest all round mountaineer ever.

In 1966 Joe opened the Llanberis shop with his wife Val. The Capel Curig shop opened a couple of years later and over the years the shops have earned the reputation of being among the best specialist climbing equipment and outdoor gear shops in the UK.

The current owners took over from Val & Joe in 2004. In that time the business has been developed and expanded to strengthen its position in the specialty outdoor market.

Our new shop "The Corner" opened in April 2010. It specialises in footwear with a professional boot fitting service, running gear, travel equipment, family outdoor & gear for kids.

As custodians of this great company we remain focused on maintaining and growing our business with total respect for the heritage and brand that is Joe Brown’s.

Applicant Profile

Wide experience of British rock climbing and hill-walking is essential. The ideal applicant will also have experience of backpacking and (preferably) winter climbing.

Experience of trekking or mountaineering in other regions of the world would be an additional benefit.

The ideal applicant would preferably have previous management experience particularly in an outdoor shop. An understanding of electronic stock systems and processes is essential and knowledge of the RMS EPOS system would be a distinct advantage. They need to be competent with MS Excel, organised and be suited to multi-tasking.

The applicant would be confident and have a pleasant open manner with customers and staff alike, together with a good technical knowledge of outdoor equipment and the industry. Applicants should be self-motivated and able to work on their own initiative.

The successful applicant will report to the General Manager and Company Directors on the daily and long term running of the operation.

A neat and tidy disposition is desirable, or should be cultivated.

Some staff uniform is provided and expected to be worn.
