Having used a similar but more expensive version of these before I wonder if someone can tell me, how do you know when the cartridge stops doing its job. Counting 200 litres isn't so easy to do over several months, and I never found I had the confidence to know if it was actually working or not. Interested to hear from the manufacturer, or others.

Can this be safely used by someone who is completely allergic to iodine? If not, is there an alternative product available for use? Thanks Pete

Thanks for the reply. I did find the bottle convenient, even in towns and cities where the water wasn't safe to drink, so they aren't just for the hills. Nice to see a cheaper version on the market, cheap enough for even me to stop using iodine drops :)

An appealing simple design - how does it work if the water you are having to collect is stagnant or has a lot of bio-matter like algae etc. in it? Wouldn't putting it that straight into the bottle clog the filter rather quickly?

As TobyA says and does it filter glacier water, sewage, oil and chemical contamination? Do the filters work on ordinary disposable water bottles?
