The 8th Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival soars back into the capital from 21-24 October 2010.

Tickets for the popular festival are on sale now at www.emff.co.uk

The main event is staged at George Square Lecture Theatre in Edinburgh, with special extra events being held at Edinburgh International Climbing Arena at Ratho. As always, it promises to be a weekend packed full of inspiration and entertainment, with an impressive diversity of speakers and a selection of films delivering lots of high drama and painful wipeouts! The EMFF has built a reputation as a fun, lively and inspiring event and this year will continue that trend.

The EMFF has secured some top names to give lectures this year including round-the-world-cyclist Mark Beaumont, explorer Benedict Allen, extreme mountaineers Mick Fowler & Twid Turner, and adventure film-maker Paul Diffley. There will also be a debate on 'The Ethics of Adventure' led by top climber Dave MacLeod and expedition sea-kayaker Patrick Winterton.

As well as the speakers, the films on the big screen are sure to thrill this year's attendees and there are some truly gob-smacking films this year. Take 'Dream Result' – it might just last 5 minutes but the footage of Tyler Bradt kayaking over a 186 foot-high waterfall is simply mind-blowing. The previous record had been 'just' 103 feet! Then there are epic films such as 'Beyond the Summits' which tracks the life of Catherine Destivelle – widely thought of as the best female alpinist of all time. Locking horns with that for the best climbing film is The Asgard Project – a high-octane climbing and BASE-jumping film with an almost Bond-esque feel to it.

While some films will thrill and inspire, others will shock and touch the heart but none more so than the feature-length 'Solo – Lost at Sea'. This remarkable film documents Andrew MacAuley's dream to become the first person to sea kayak, unaccompanied, from Tasmania to New Zealand. The attempt ended in tragedy as he capsized and drowned just 30 miles from New Zealand, after surviving 33 days and some massive storms at sea. He left behind a wife and young son. The debate on 'The Ethics of Adventure' which follows this movie is sure to be an engrossing, lively and heated affair.

If you are active in the outdoors or if you simply like great stories set against amazing cinematography, the 8th Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival is sure to entertain, enlighten and inspire you so don't miss out! The festival, staged in association with Tiso & Wilderness Journeys, expects over 2,500 outdoor enthusiasts to attend the event this year and ticket sales are already well-ahead of all expectations. Don't miss out – get yours today!
