Big Rock Climbing Centre is an exciting new development in Milton Keynes that will be opening in July 2010. The centre is being set up as a collaboration between The Beacon Climbing Centre in N Wales and two local climbers. Initially the centre will have 1,400sqm of climbing with a mix of roped climbing, bouldering & group climbing areas. • Full range of courses
• Café & shop
• Lectures
• Masterclasses

We are currently looking for suitable individuals to form the centre’s management team which we anticipate will comprise a manager and two deputy managers who, between them, will have full responsibility for the day to day running of the centre. The following attributes are considered essential for these posts:

• Dynamic & enthusiastic with excellent attention to detail
• Genuine interest in climbing
• Ability to manage & inspire a team of Centre Assistants, instructors & route setters
• Good understanding of the way modern climbing walls operate
• Willingness to work occasional weekend & evening shifts

Other important attributes for various members of the management team would include:

• Strong instructional background possibly including CWA & CWLA providership
• Good understanding of the health & safety issues affecting climbing walls
• Route setting experience
• Marketing skills
• Computer literacy including some graphic design
• Book keeping experience

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a challenging but fun environment with the possibility of having a real impact on the future of the business. We will be offering a competitive salary of £25-30,000 based on experience.

Hi Steve, i'm not interested in the management job as i'm full time as a Senior NCO aircrew in the RAF. I'm not looking for a salaried job with you either but it would be in my interest to see you get established and would like to get involved in some way. I'm 42, soon to be living in Towcester (10 miles away) and based down at Benson near Wallingford. I've been climbing for about 15 years, I'm a "rock climbing instructor" (military qual) i'm also SPA and ML. I've done plenty of instructing indoors with my military qualification but i do not hold a civilian indoor award. I've climbed at many indoor walls across the country and go at about F6C when i'm going well. I'm also currently on the RAF mountaineering Association committee. Outdoors i've climbed all over the world and is this country climb at a steady E1. I'm also a qualified route setter having done a course with CWMA about 18 months ago. I've had little opportunity to use this but would be willing to help out at your wall and try and gain a bit more route setting experience (for a bit of free climbing maybe). Anyway, i'm moving to towcester end of July which should coincide nicely with your opening. If you think i could get involved in some way please drop me a line and i'll pop in over july and introduce myself. Regards Jamie Jarvis Mob no: 07971 894193
