Heads up: this coming weekend sees the premier of Hard Rock, Paul Diffley's new tribute made for Hotaches Productions to the late Ken Wilson. After its first screenings at the Kendal Mountain Festival, it will be available on BMC TV.

Shot in black and white, it features ascents of some of the routes in Ken's famous book of the same name, overlaid over a long interview Diff did with him before his dementia took full hold. It also features my son Daniel, 12, who plays the young Ken in authentic 1950s scout gear to illustrate the start of Wilson's mountain career, as he describes it in the interview. Diff shot this on Tryfan, on the north ridge and Milestone Buttress, earlier this year.

I saw something close to the final cut and it is quite superb, and at times, very moving. It manages to say an awful lot about Ken, rough edges and all, in its 20-minute span. Daniel did great, too: I'm a proud dad.

Not to be missed.
