I found myself unexpectedly cold on a long belay shift the other day in spite of wearing a number of layers - probably a combo of exposure to northerly winds and being in thick freezing-cold cloud - so have been looking at getting a vest/gilet type thing as a booster layer underneath the shell. This would seem to be a good choice. Has anyone actually used one? http://rab.equipment/us/mens/insulation/altus-vest

I got one for the same reasons, although haven't used it in true anger yet. So far, I'm very impressed though, as it seems to be as close to down as a synthetic filling has managed to get, and look forward to using it soon.

Sounds a lot like TNF Thermoball insulation

I have a TNF Thermoball vest, it's fine. The insulation material is good but the cut is a bit boxy and needs an elasticated hem really - it's used mostly for town use though

I think TNF had sole use of the insulation for a while, maybe their monopoly on it has now run out?
