The Big Climb is a fun and inclusive event aimed at experienced climbers who want to join in an exciting personal climbing challenge whilst raising money for Climbers against Cancer. Based on an enchainment challenge in North Wales, The Big Climb will supply you with a dedicated score card and you have 12 hours to see how many routes you can tick. The event will primarily be based out of Llanberis so if you are travelling to attend, find some accommodation in the area and you’re ready for a great weekend!

The Big Climb costs £40 per two person team to enter and includes entry to the talks on Friday evening at Beacon Climbing Centre with some of the biggest names in UK climbing. If you don’t want to enter the climbing event, then you can still support The Big Climb by attending the Friday evening lectures for £10 – guaranteed to be a great event in itself.

CLIMBERS AGAINST CANCER
Climbers Against Cancer was founded in January 2013 by John Ellison, who decided to take a stand against the disease that affects so many, including himself. The charity aimed not only to raise much needed funds to help fight cancer, but to also raise awareness of the disease - highlighting the problems that its victims and their friends and families go through.

Capturing the imagination of the international climbing community, CAC became a truly global campaign backed by both regular climbers as well as some of the biggest names in our sport, raising an incredible £350,000 to date for cancer research through the sale of t-shirts, hoodies and other merchandise.

In recognition of his incredible contribution to the climbing community, John was granted an honorary International Federation of Sport Climbing membership, a UIAA award and most recently received the 2015 Arco Rock Legends Ambassador Award… “I am one of you and it’s thanks to you that I’m here. This award belongs to everyone, we all received it.” John watched the audience as it simply would not stop applauding. There was affection, sincere warmth in that applause, affinity.

John sadly passed away peacefully in his sleep on 27th December 2015 after a 4-year battle against his cancer. But his legacy lives on with CAC and events like The Big Climb are dedicated to John’s memory and our continuing fight against cancer. We hope you can take part.

"In life we are all climbers."
CAC mission statement.
