Anyone been on the munros in the Affric/mullardoch/strathfarrar area recently? How much snow is left high up? Is there enough to make it worth carrying an ice axe in case of residual patches of neve at tricky points on the ridges? or is it all soft and slushy stuff now?

cheers

Gregor, I was up at Mullardoch earlier this week. There were patches of snow in gullies and in corries just below ridges etc. We judged it was sensible to carry axes but never actually used them. What there was was slushy. We weren't on anything particulary exposed. Hope that helps.

Was there last weekend. Could easily avoid all patches.
In reply to Father Noel Furlong and Pbob:

thanks for the feedback- were either of you on the an socach-an riabhachan-sgurrr na lapaich part of the range? only concern is that the narrower parts of the ridge or steeper descents might have awkward patches, but if they're all avoidable then will leave the axes at home, as doesn't look like there's going to be more snow this week...

cheers

Out of interest, when are you actually going to up there? We're going to be rambling around that sort of area from the Bank Holiday weekend...
In reply to Ramblin dave:

Just hoping the forecast turns out as good as the outlook suggests!
