Berber Ridge
Morocco
Mountaineering Expedition 2016

One of our pioneering expeditions -
Be a part of the first commercial team to complete this challenge in the High Atlas, Morocco:

The Berber Ridge circuit is one of the hardest mountaineering routes in the High Atlas, following a continuous ridge crest on an 8-day long Cuillin-Ridge-style traverse. Remote, sustained and serious, this is scrambling at its most exciting!

Our planned route traverses 30 peaks above 3,000m and nine 4,000m peaks, crossing plenty of Grade 3 territory. The traverse starts from Oukaimeden via the Angour Plateaux and finishes 70km later on Tizi n’Taddate before descending to Imlil for our transfer back.

The Crux

Although the ridge is consistently challenging, there are three cruxes involved testing your technical and rope skills. The first is on Day 6 starting with the descent via Western Toubkal ridge to Ouanoukrim peak (4,089m), Morocco’s second highest peak, when the ridge starts to become very technical and ropes will be required. The second starts just beyond Ounoukrim on Day 7: traversing the peak towards Agelzim plateau requires abseils and technical Grade 3 scrambling. The final hard section starts beyond Biiguinnoussene with the last 4000m of the ridge, where one final rope challenge leads up Tizi n’Taddate, a 100 foot pinnacle, situated in the middle of the col.

Experience required

This is an ambitious and physically demanding expedition, requiring abseils and technical Grade 3 scrambling - and some serious preparation in advance. During the trip, a 1:3 guide client ratio will allow for individual coaching and close support. Our pre-expedition training course will give you the opportunity to do practice scrambles in the Lake District or North Wales and get more mileage moving on Grade 3 ground.

If the adrenaline rush, originality and technical challenge alone isn't enough then here are a further 5 highlights to tempt you:

• Unique chance to summit every 4,000m peak in the High Atlas valley.

• Rise to the epic challenge of climbing 40 peaks over 3,000m in one traverse.

• Experience the High Atlas like no one else.

• Spend nights in bivvies or tents on the summit of Toubkal and rarely visited mountain tops, waking up to magnificent views along the spine of the Atlas and down
toward the Sahara.

• Develop your scrambling skills: Pre-expedition training course included in trip package and option to work out an individual training programme.
