How best should I compose a home movie, at the editing stage, so that it presents a fews grades above punter level?

In reply to The Lemming:

Establishing shots/intro music (i.e. beginning). Some more stuff (voiceover? Just so they do know what it's about.) Middle (i.e. the story). End ("That's it, folks!")

Every frame has to carry the story onward.

Do your best but don't go crazy.

Good luck!

That was a really interesting presentation jammed full of stuff that I could use however I will admit, most went way, way, way over my head.

And I will be viewing that again several times to learn new stuff.

There was one bit that was not discussed, which I hoped would be answered and that was how to package the movie. I don't exactly know how to word this other that if I was designing a book, then I would have a front cover, index, contents, pages full of blurb, and then the ending part of the book such as the credits.

What I'm feebly trying to ask for is how do I move from a youtube punter of jumping right in with my shots of the dog or suchlike to having a professional start and ending to my projects?
