I'm looking at either the Viper 2 (http://dmmclimbing.com/products/new-viper-harness/ ) or Renegade 2 (http://dmmclimbing.com/products/new-renegade-harness/ )

Does anyone here have any experience with either of these? They seem remarkably similar besides that the Renegade has 2 extra gear loops (though the loops themselves are smaller) and am wondering what makes the Renegade a "performance" harness while the Viper is a "starter" harness...

My review of the newest Renegade here http://lightfromthenorth.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/dmm-renegade-harness-review... (links in that article back to my original UKC review of the first Renegade also). The Viper is a bit simplified (no ice screw rack holder, less lumbar support etc.) but I doubt in use the differences are that noticeable. I've come to the conclusion over the years that harnesses are not the biggest bit of gear to worry over, either of those models will do the job!

The floating wiastband wasn't featured in the Viper1 but now that it has been added to the Viper2 I struggle to justify the extra cost of the Renegade. That said (if DMM still offer it) the Renegade Pro is fitted with traditional double back buckles, which I personally much prefer and probably would be willing to pay extra for.
