Just watched The Revenant.

Set in 1823, it was amazing to see (in this depiction) the general level of tolerance to discomfort in the form of continuous snow, rain, mud, icy water and cold back then.

I'd find it pretty uncomfortable if I did a three hour Scottish winter climb without gloves never mind waking up in the snow, jumping off a cliff into a tree and then spending the night naked inside the carcass of my dead horse...

Based (loosely) on a true story too https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Glass

According to todays Times it is an accurate representation of what happened other than:

It was summer and not winter
It was in the plains and not in a forest
The waterfall, cliff and dead horse did not happen

The bear was true and it was America

At least as an American movie it didnt show him winning the Battle of Waterloo with part time assistance from the Duke of Wellington.

I often take a dead horse with me for alpine bivvies

A poor film - 10 Oscar nominations...

I found it to be tedious, lacking in a distinctive storyline or distinctive characters (even DiCaprio was dull), And the ceaseless violence ultimately led to tedium. I went to sleep in the end.

On the whole, I enjoyed the film. I thought the bear attack was one of the best attempts at a wild animal attack I've seen. There was the odd Hollywood bit in it, but you expect that.
