I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much relatively easy (English grade II - III) winter ice climbing there is in and around the Chamonix area? I'm looking at buying a guide for this area but I would be most grateful for a feel of any suitable routes prior to purchase?
Thanks,
Thomas

Do you mean stuff you would actually do in the winter season? Not much if any that's worth doing and it's more serious. You'd need skis to get to and from the routes for a start.

If you mean snow/ice/mixed stuff that you can do in the summer (conditions permitting), there are a lot of routes in the PD to AD range that would fit the bill. It won't be pure ice though.
