Wales winter walks

Hi all,

My work is arranging a couple of days in North Wales this coming January. We are looking on one of the days for some easier walks around the Snowdon area, any suggestions?

To give some idea, a couple of us are SPA'd/ ML'd etc so have some experience of being in the mountains but the majority of the group are not. Are there any picturesque walks that won't require ice axes/ crampons around that time?

Thanks Ben

How about the Moel Eilio Horseshoe. Fairly straight forward walk with stunning views of Snowdon itself as well as the Mountains to the south. Starts and Finishes in Llanberis so it's easy to get to if there is snow on the ground.

Why don't you ask the MLs, surely they will have some ideas?

None of them could require axes and crampons in January, or alternatively all of them could...

Depending on conditions it may require ice axe and crampons, but I like Moel Siabod in the snow as a relatively easy walk. You could start off on it and turn around if you get to compacted snow or ice.
In reply to Ben Taggart-Ryan:

You need to ask the question 3 or 4 days before you go (and then again on the day itself). North Wales winter conditions are so variable you can't plan much further than that unless you stick to the coast path.
In reply to Orgsm:

The ML's mostly have experience in Scotland or the Lakes/ Peaks

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Moel Tryfan and Moel Smytho are smashing little hills with good views, if its clear of snow you could do Mynydd Mawr as well, the hills are just down from the town 'Waun Fawr', watch the slate quarries at Moel Tryfan and the descent down Mynydd Mawr is steep-ish. From the cairn at SH 54344 55405 you can see the steam train down in the valley chugging though Nant y Betws.

Weather in January could be anything from full on Winter conditions to tee shirts on the tops. If you are prepared to drive a bit, there are lots of walks around and over the Moelwyns. You should be able to find something there unless it's so snowy you can't get to Tanygrisiau.
