Colder weather trousers

Hi guys, just wanted a bit of advice over some colder weather trousers.

They will be for walking and a spot of hill climbing/scrambling in late autumn, winter and early spring, but also for just general out and about with the kids.

Therefore they must

1. Not be insulated too much, but moreover warmer than lightweight walking trousers or jeans.
2. Have either a long leg option or be fairly long in the leg if no option as I measure 33" inside leg.
3. Have a tapered and/or slim fit lower leg and ankle. I absolutely don't want anything that is baggy, though I don't mind if it has a zip to allow larger boots.
4. Be able to shed off a bit of crappy weather i.e. a bit of wind/rain/snow.
5. Be reasonably tough.

I am fairly slim 6'00 and take a 32" waist and normally go for 34" leg on most trousers.

I had a few in mind, but wanted to see if anyone had an experience or options before I pulled the trigger.

ME Ibex
Rab Ascender
Arcteryx Gamma AR or SL

Cheers
Sneeze

If they fit you these are awesome http://www.decathlon.co.uk/alpinism-pants-id_8010075.html I suspect they may be short in the leg for you though.

Gammas are both nice if the cut works for you (very slim in the upper leg). Haglofs are worth looking at as well -
These are an update of the minor cult item, the Hard Fjell trousers:

Try their forclaz 500 warm, then. Close-weave outer, fluffy inner face, nicely wind reststant. Reasonable water resistance.

£35 in brown, £40 in black

34" leg might be tricky.

You are failing to move with the times. If recent ukc gear reviews are to be believed you don't need "trousers", you need "pants" or "a trouser".

nah they actually aren't all that warm they are unlined IIRC, the forclaz trousers captain paranoia linked are probably warmer.

I second the Haglofs, great pair of trousers.

That's a tricky one. The Simond Alpinism trousers are heavier, but less wind resistant than the Forclaz... Both use dual weave fabrics, but the Alpinism trousers have a kind of tight looped inner face, whereas the Forlaz are fluffy.

There's always the Alpinism Light trousers...

Cooler than either. Oh, and the legs come out a bit longer, too.

I have the Ibex's and Gamma AR's - both great pairs of breeks, Gammas are slightly warmer and have a very comfortable brushed feel to the inside. Of the two, the Ibex's are about 2 years old now and still going strong, Gamma's are fairly new so can't comment on the durability. Both are neat in the calf, with the Ibex having a zip at the ankle to give a bit of adjustment in that respect.

I'm in my 2nd pair of arcteryx light ones gamma lt about 100 notes pre discount. now have red ones for best and scruffy ones for childcare...

Amazing durability and remarkable wide temperature range usefulness.

With thermals 4000m plus alpinism. Without comfy running in 20 degrees lots of UK rock and hill walking.

Have also used the original decathlon version. with side. vent zips warm.and heavy. but remarkable value.
