Over half way through, but I've just turned on Epic of Everest on BBC 4. A silent film of original footage of the 1924 Everest expedition. Some great shots. I expect you should be able to catch the whole thing on iPlayer later.

I thought the shots of the Tibetans were fascinating, with the arcane wording of the commentary too. The shots of the mountain environment were simply too much to take in without appreciating it as we do today. For example the step cutting up the ice wall...I doubt contemporaries would have really understood it all.

A wonderful piece of mountaineering history though nevertheless.
