Hi can anyone help please?

What size spanner do I need to unscrew the nut to change my ice picks on the Black diamond cobra ice axes?

cheers

Just use the pick on the other axe? Fits perfectly in the slot on the bolt.

Whatever you do don't try to use the tool that BD provide for it, it's completely useless.

It's OK if you use it correctly and better than trying to use the blade/screwdriver slot or an open ended spanner.

Hold the BD tool in position on the bolt head and tap it gently to release or tighten.

That way the bolt head stays hexagonal.

In reply to Gazlynn: I sourced some Allen bolts to use instead. Works a lot better, especially when the corners of the original bolts can get damaged

Do you know what size the bolts are? Are the metric or Imperial? I'd imagine imperial being BD...

You are probably right Mike.

14mm fits pretty well though, snugger than 9/16 and the BD tool.

Just tried the BD tool and the 14mm on my Vipers. The BD tool actually works quite well if you use it like I described earlier.

So +1 for BD, but deduct a point as I once tried to get the torque setting for the bolts but could not find it in the BD website.

I tend to set the wrench on the FT setting. Seems to do the trick.

I'll see if I've still got the packaging I got them in Mike.

In reply to beardy mike: they're 3/8 UNF Mike. I put a thin copper washer under the bolt head so it doesn't bind when you need to undo it

Cheers for that!
