Yes it might be our duty to look out for each other in mountains. But you can only go so far.
Many years ago I came across a party high on an exposed ridge in the lakes. Howling gale and wet. There were several folk gathered around a bivvi bag.
On enquiring it appeared one of the party had collapsed and was semi-conscious in the bag.
I suggested that they'd be much more comfortable if they moved a few yards downhill in the lee of the ridge where the conditions were pretty calm. This they refused as, "she's unconscious" despite me explaining that they'd all go down with hypothermia if they stayed where they were without shelter.
At this point I insisted and started to grab the plastic bag she was in and started to gently pull it on the smooth grass downwards.......then I noticed one of them had a big "XXXX Mountain Rescue" badge on his chest (I'll not name it except to say it wasn't a local team).
I was again told they'd be OK but she was unconscious and shouldn't be moved.
I thought bugger you, if you want to freeze its your friend and left them to it.
In fairness to myself I did run all the way to the nearest phone.
