Two friends were climbing at Boulder Cove at Brean Down yesterday and they said there were at least 7 dead goats at the foot of the crag, causing an almost unbearable stink. Might be worth reporting to the National Trust as they might want to carry out post mortem examinations and also it would be great if they removed the carcasses. Does anyone have a contact?

Seven seems high for an accident, probably some irresponsible dog owner let their dog chase them off. Stuff like that really gets my goat!

7? You've got to be kidding?

Some locals think it may be male goats fighting, but I obviously it could be a dog attack. I think it's important to check it's not some disease.

No it isnt.

Find the dog that caused it ( if it was in fact a dog) and shoot the dog and castrate the owner.

When I was there on Tuesday I let the guys in the National Trust shop know and they said they would report it to someone. It's pretty whiffy.

It's been reported to sedgemoor council. The goats are feral, the beach below the down isn't national trust and my ranger team are t allowed to touch the things.
Just waiting on local council... And waiting...

Just an update. The live goats smell worse than the 2 dead goats now. But the live ones are prettier. If anyone wants a skull with big horns for the collection then please feel free....
Anyone else notice that goat smell and taste is the same? Even their poo and dead bodies smell of soft cheese.

Hi Guys,

Any update on the situation? I was hoping to make my way down to Brean sometimes soon but I can hardly stand a smell of goat cheese, let alone dead goats..

cheers

The same happened at Dunkeld a couple of years ago. In that case it was probably winter freeze that cause the fatalities but the smell was appalling! And it was deer.
