Going on a expedition around the grey corries and the mamores and i am also on looking on doing a route or two up ben nevis possibly one being tower ridge. I will be arriving in Scotland this wednesday. Will an axe and crampons be needed? There was a lot of snow last week but doesnt look as bad this week..

Cheers

Axe and crampons definitely advisable for the exit!

My offering in the 'how awesome was Tower Ridge yesterday? stakes'. http://alanhalewood.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/springtime-on-tower-ridge.html

There is a lot less snow on the Mamores and Grey Coires. Large patches still abound though so an axe might be worth carrying.

We were on Grey Corries last Monday and it was fine without either - one or two patches of snow on the ridge but easily walked on or passed. The Ben still looked to have a lot of snow as do the Aonachs so it may be advisable just in case - any snow we did come across on other hills was soft & sugary though some pretty large patches on summit areas - eg Geal Charn (Ben Alder) which was best to have sunglasses to cross due to the glare of the sun
