HI there,

I am going to Iceland this summer for a couple of treks (nothing too remote tbh); few people advised to get a GPS for extra safety.

I am new to this, (I generally rely on map+compass!) and I didn't want to invest too much for my first gps. I have seen the Garmin eTrek 20, which seems decent and with a reasonable price.

Could anyone tell me if it is a worthy to buy item? Would it work in Iceland and do I have to buy/download map separately?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure on the exact model but it's unlikely to have map on it, other than very basic road layout. It will, however, be able to give you a grid reference (you need to set it to the Iceland grid system in its settings) for where you are, and you'll be able to plot waypoints in advance for your proposed route.

It colour and you can add maps. Good GPS , battery life 50 hours on lithiums. Reliable.
