"she was being sent 180 letters a month and was plagued by phone calls"

"she spent much of her pension on charity donations but was receiving an "overwhelming" number of letters and phone calls asking for more. She believed charities were passing on her details to others"

What a terribly sad story

Awful. Many charities are guilty of pestering previous donors.

I've had it time and time again. Make a donation and they've got you on their records as a "soft" touch. Some of the cancer research charities are the worst.

Having got you they phone you and try to weedle more out of you and make you feel guilty for not making further donations.

It's shameful behaviour, particularly where the donor is elderly.

I agree. Any charitable donation should be spontaneous and not as the result of being pressurised or mad to feel bad.

This goes double for "give £3" posters on trains!
