Hi guys,

We are a party of two and are planning a Matterhorn summit bid via the Hornli Ridge route this Summer.

I have seen Youtube clips on the type of fixed ropes (3-4cm diameter jute/synthetic?) and belay points (20-30cm 'question mark-shaped') on this route.

Could anyone recommend appropriate rope length as well as other climbing gears for the attempt?

Is it recommended to wear gloves? If yes, what type?

Thank you in advance!!

Ah the eternal Hornli ridge issue. Been doing it myself for a few years now and still not got it. Based entirely on the excellent Moran book rather than personal experience, I intend to take (when i do get it): couple of slings, belay device, 5 quickdraws, 35m rope, + helmet etc. Will use skinny gloves with Dachstein mitts back-up.

On a 4k mountain? Actually you should wear a Borat style mankini so your gloves should be bright fluorescent yellow.
