Doug Scott Lecture: A Crawl Down The Ogre, Thursday 12 February, 7 - 9 pm, Hartpury College, Gloucester GL19 3BE
Doug Scott CBEwill be talking about his legendary descent off The Ogre in 1977 with both legs broken above the ankles, following the first ever ascent with Sir Chris Bonington in 1977. This is an epic tale of hard climbing and survival that has now become part of mountaineering folklore. Not only had Doug broken both legs but Chris was suffering from smashed ribs and pneumonia. The Ogre, in Pakistan, is now recognised as one of the most difficult high mountains to climb in the world. There is no easy way to the summit…or off it.
Proceeds from the evening will benefit The Cavell Nurses Trust which supports medical staff and nurses who have fallen on hard times, and Community Action Nepal</>, a UK based charity who help the mountain people of Nepal.
Tickets: £15 general public. Concessions: all Students £10 on production of valid student card; Hartpury staff £12.50. Purchase online: www.hartpurycollege.shop
