Just wondering if anyone has advice on which crampons best fit womens boots. I have a pair of nepals and grivel air techs but the toes go too far over the front points and the heel is a few mm off the edges on both sides.

Thanks!

Size38 boots btw

Yes Air Tech's suffer from this in particular due to their shorter points. I would take a look at Black Diamond and Petzl crampons and see if you can get a better fit.

Crampomatic type fittings may help http://www.grivel.com/products/ice/crampons/5-g12?binding=0

Best to take boots into Local shop and try a few sets of crampons on.

Also if u search forums there are similar posts re crampons for smaller boots.

Petzl Sarkens would be worth a try.

My daughter has a pair of PETZL Vasak Leverlock Crampons she no longer uses, these fit boots from 36 to 46 and could be suitable, she used then on Scarpa Freney XT's

I found with my nepas (size 37.5) that space around the heel was the problem, the heel of the crampon never felt secure due to the narrowness of the boot. I ended up with CT nuptse

There is still a little space between the boot and the 'nubbins' at the heel of the crampon, but they are totally secure

Thanks everyone. I'm going to go try some petzls tomorrow to see if they're better, I really like the idea of the air techs just a shame they don't fit!

+1 for Petzl crampons. I have size 3 feet. Both sarkens and vasaks work well on my Nepals. I had to chop the end off the bar so it didn't stick out the back, but no issues with fit around the heel or toe.

If you want something more technical, I have heard good things about BD Cyborgs on small boots, but I haven't tried them personally.

Edited to add: for the Petzl crampons I have found the Leverlock heel and toe basket combination works best for me - that may obviously vary depending on your boots.

I have BD cyborgs, and although they are advertised as going down to a size 36, I am unable to adjust them to fit my Nepal extremes in size 38 well enough to wear!

Edelrid Shark crampons were by far the best fit for my other half's size 36 Nepal Extremes. BD ones didn't fit at all, Petzl and Grivel ones were OK ish. Obviously we still had to saw off the end of the extension bars (why don't the manufacturers make short bars available!?) For a more technical crampon the Edelrid Beast also fits well.

In reply to GPN:

Because manufacturers don't make small things available very often as it is a small (!) market! Just as shops don't stock winter boots in small sizes very often etc. Market forces prevail, few people want them so it's not worth the cost to them. Constant battle of mine, but it's just the way it is.
