Hi
in a recent post I asked about Belay Gloves and it seemed that they are a good idea http://www.ukhillwalking.com/forums/t.php?n=606331&v=1#x7961821 though with certain caveats about the glove reducing gripping power.
I have read this http://www.bolt-products.com/Glue-inBoltDesign.htm and the person who has wrote this seems knowledgeable and seems to say that gloves are a good plan, see bottom of article in Stitch plates section.
When I have seen belaying gloves they seem to be leather of sometype, like a riggers glove and thickish material and I could well imagine that it would decrease grip strength and I wondered if some kind of fabric would be better. If Rock Climbing water resistance would not be an issue.
There are some weird and wonderful fabrics out there now so the choice is not limited to cotton or nylon.
Anybody any thoughts on this.

I recently bought a pair of Edelrid belay gloves which are mostly leather and from my experience, there is definitely more friction holding a rope when wearing the gloves than with just my bare hands.

Okay, so I look like Mickey Mouse or a snooker referee when I have them on, but they keep all the grease and dirt off my hands before a hard redpoint, which is why I bought them and they do the job very effectively.

I've got some Singing Rock ones with split hide leather palms, grip is much greater than skin could be.

Artificial fibre fabric (nylon, polyxxxx) is likely to melt - leather or maybe kevlar are the only real options for anything durable.

What do you mean, I "seem" knowledgeable?
