As my laptop has just died, I'm looking to spend £500ish on a new notebook to be used for general internet browsing, word processing etc but good enough to handle photoshop.

I'm not bothered about it being big and clunky or battery life as it will live indoors and be plugged in 99% of the time.

Looked around a bit but struggling to come up with something that catches my eye.

Can anyone recommend something? Perhaps I'm shooting a bit low at £500?

I've been having a browse recently for a lightweight laptop for work but failing to find one. One thing I have noticed is a fair few of the laptops I looked at had awful screens, so definitely have a look at one in the flesh before you buy if it is possible. It seems to be fairly easy to find a laptop with a good processor, a decent quantity of ram and a reasonably spacious hard disk but the screen and graphics card seems to be the stumbling block especially with lower priced models. For photoshop I'd have thought the graphics card was less of a concern though.

My first laptop dated 1998, with Millennium, worked perfectly fine with Photoshop.

I don't think that any laptop today will struggle with anything Photoshop can throw at it. My Tesco bought Acer from 4 years ago copes admirably with everything I throw at it.

My advice would be to get a laptop with an Intel i3 or i5 processor

I got a custom-built i5 equipped laptop from PC Specialist last year. The HD IPS screen looks great too.
