I use Viewranger though it is not free.

Uses OS maps and you can plot routes etc. I have most of the north of Scotland on a SD card (?) in the phone.

(I have a Galaxy S3 as well)

II use a free app called MMTracker. It uses the Multi-Map .qct / .qcd map formats.
The latest version I have is V1.10.4. I believe that it is no longer supported by the developer (who I also believe developed it himself). However you can still find it if you search round enough.

You can download the OS maps from multi-map website for a fee or alternatively there is google and rapidshare etc.
