you've missed a trick, the shaft could be made hollow and the handgrip locking firmly into place but unscrewable and watertight....behold the mighty ice tool/hip flask!

You really want a trigger to extend the head by a couple of feet for those hard to reach hooks...press the button again and it pulls you up.

The production model should have either a fixed adze or hammer - no ability to swap between the two.
