Youth Categories at ROCfest
Sounds like a great competition. I have an observation on the Youth category system. You’ve promoted the event and stated in your original post that your Youth age categories match the IFSC category system however they don’t. The IFSC and BMC Youth Series – which also uses the IFSC system use a system based on year of birth (See below) while you have a system based on age on day of comp.

I only raise this as it would be good to obtain category consistency for Youth competitions across the UK.

As you’ve already started publicising your category system I don’t think it would be fair to ask you to reconsider tweaking it. However it would be good if you could consider changing it for 2016?

It would be great to know your thoughts. Thanks

Taken from: "BMC Youth Climbing Series:
https://www.thebmc.co.uk/bmc-youth-climbing-series

There are five categories, with separate girls and boys competitions, that follow the IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) system based on year of birth. The categories are called Youth A, B, C, D and E.

In 2015 these are:

Youth A - those born in 1998 & 1999
Youth B – those born in 2000 & 2001
Youth C – those born in 2002 & 2003
Youth D – those born in 2004 & 2005
Youth E - those born in 2006 & 2007

As the categories are worked out on the year a young person is born - and these move on by one each year."

Thank you for your comments. After every ROCfest we ask for feedback of which from 2013 one of the items was more junior categories.

Since we opened registration we have received alot of feedback with regards this years categories such as yours. So have subsequently tweaked it a little to age at time of ROCfest 2015 being:

Ages 13-14
Ages 11-12
Ages 10-11
Ages 9-10
ages 7-9

As you have suggested we will ask for feedback again and if needed adjust accordingly.

It was a difficult one as we hold an adult and junior comp on same day at same time with adults for the ROCfest being 16+.

Again thank you very much for your comments we always take these on board.

Kind regards

Can you look at those dates & ages again?

Where will the 15 & 16 year olds go?

They cant compete with the adults.

Cat A born 1998 & 1999 will be 15 & 16 on the day of the comp.

When we registered & I mentioned this I was told that age 15 on the day will be in the Cat b (unfair on those in cat B) & those that are 16 will be in the adults again unfair on the 16 year olds.

Whats wrong with sticking to the standard A to E cat groups?
