Tim Emmett & Will Gadd will be lecturing at Beacon Climbing Centre as part of our 20th Anniversary Event on Saturday 18th October 2014.

Tim and Will first met at the Ice Climbing World Cup in 2001. A meeting that saw Will narrowly missing serious injury in a bar stunt but that resulted in a friendship and partnership that led to both climbers receiving a Golden Piton award in 2010 for climbing the spray ice wall on the 141m Helmcken Falls in British Colombia, Canada. The resulting pitch 'Spray On' rated WI 10 - three grades harder than any other pure ice climb in existence.

Here they talk together in the UK for the first time about their 4 year mission to climb two of the wildest and hardest mixed lines on the Planet to reach the top of the Helmcken Falls: Emmett's extension to Spray On, Spray On Top WI 10, M11 230m completed in 2012 and Gadd's 2014 ascent of Overhead Hazard M13, 200m.

Tim Emmett: "For me climbing to the top of Helmcken Falls is like a right of passage, an answer to why I started climbing in the first place. It's off the scale! It encompasses so many factors, all at once. It's a real adventure - exciting, dangerous, exposed, brilliant, varied, difficult and in my opinion one of the most amazing natural creations on Earth. And it's alive, always moving, always changing!"
