Pyrenean Escape Routes - Snow Shoeing - January 2015

A walking and snowshoeing holiday for active walkers following escapes routes across high passes and frozen lakes in the Pyrenees.

In January 1939 as the Spanish civil war came to an end and 20,000 refugees crossed the Pyrenees on foot in the snow escaping from thew fascist troops of Franco. Only 2 years later allied airmen who had crashed in Nazi occupied France were escaping over the Pyrenees to Spain. Our journey retraces their routes through the spectacular mountains of the eastern Pyrenees.

This trip has five full days of walking high in the Pyrenees on foot and on snowshoes. We will discover the dramatic and often tragic history of the Pyrenean escape routes and marvel at the winter scenery. We will walk for 5 or 6 hours a day and rest at night in a mountain hotel at 1650 meters with great local food.
This is holiday for keen walkers who want to discover more about the recent history of the Eastern Pyrenees. No experience of snow shoeing is required and snow shoes can be rented locally.
