Hi
I'm primarily interested in a book covering alpine routes, but if there is sport climbing nearby covered by a guidebook - then any info on that would be welcome too. English/French preferred.
Thank you.

Have a look at this list

"Escalade et alpinisme Queyras Viso" seems to fit your description

The CAI do Monte Vista 1987. Italian, obviously

Thank you both. Hoping someone has been climbing in the area and can give a view from experience too?

Thank you again to you both for replying. On the basis that the CAI book will indeed be in Italian I order the other option.

In reply to Removed Userchamdog: The book Doug mentions is new and is the most up to date. Much better than the previous edition - check out http://www.visotopo.com There were also a fair few copies in AV Campeur in Sallanches.

A much delayed thank you, James. Sallanches now has one less copy. It's an amusing guidebook - quite wordy, not to mention all the captioned photos! Good route descriptions.

Thanks everyone.

Hi
Been three times to MonViso climbing from Giacoletti, Sella and Vallanta huts. Giacoletti is an outstanding alpine rock climbing centre, family run and very helpful. The routes range from 5 mins to over an hour approaches but all are good fun & not overbolted at a variety of grades. The long ridge routes are spectacular.
Vallanta climbing is more limited but still interesting and then there's Monviso which is a classic Alpine giant with a good normal route (F+, variable, according to snow conditions) & the E. ridge at AD.
The people are lovely & Saluzzo a great place to chill out. Much less of the commercialisation that you find in Cham. Mornings can be stunning weather but it often clouds up by midday so get up early!
Have a good time!
Dave
