Then its probably not the shelter for you.

I like the idea of integrating walking poles into the shelter structure, rather than carrying two sets of dedicated unrelated poles.

Did you read the wikipdeia link? It's a more specific that 'hiker'. It means someone on a long distance walk. Hiker could refer to someone on a day hike.

It does seem to be a glorified tarp (admittedly a very good one) I just feel that the prices for these kind of things are getting ridiculous I like to see maybe some smaller companies (such as alpkit) making a competitive product
