I'd planned on bivvying on the summit of Carrock Fell as the last top in ticking off the Northern Fells. There's an Iron Age fort on the summit but I don't know how good the fort is.
I reckon you can't do much better than having 6 or 7 pints of ale in The Fish in Buttermere then stomping up Red Pike in a stupor before collapsing into your bag clutching another ale you've thoughtfully carried up from the pub.

I concur... It's just the waking up, early the following morning, with a face full of midges that I really object to.
Angle Tarn is a cracking spot, you could go to the top of Angle Tarn Pikes if you wanted to be at the top, and it's not too far to walrk from the pubs in Patterdale.
Don't bother with Styhead or Sprinkling Tarns, nor Blea Tarn or Small Water - all of them aren't especially scenic and suffer from far too many people (and far too many people's crap).
Well we did our Helvellyn sleep over on Friday night, real nice weather. The light from the full moon was so bright we needed shades. Here are some photos from the trip. Apart from air dampness settling atop the bags all went well. Any questions on gear used just ask.

Lorraine McCall began her attempt today at a continuous, self-powered round of the Grahams, a four-month tour of upland Scotland combining walking and bikepacking. If successful, she'll be the first person that we know of to do it.
