I need to replace my knackered climbing trousers. They will be used on sea-cliffs, mountain crags, non-serious alpine rock routes, sometimes in warmer climates. I'm looking for something lightweight, 100% synthetic, and wind-resistant. You'll be relieved to hear Ron Hills fail the latter criteria. They shouldn't be too insulating, I'd rather have the flexibility of wearing thermals on cold days and staying cool on warm ones. Continental European crags and shops are full of them.

My local shops have dozens of possibilities from the major manufacturers and most of them look like they would do the job but, as far as I can tell, only available in the UK in sludge colours: black, dark grey, brown, khaki, or (be still my beating heart) olive green.

Any suggestions for canary yellow, sky blue or crimson trousers, other than getting a flight to Chamonix?

Or River Island, BHS, Sport Direct or somewhere completely non-outdoors.

And try the female range.

That should do the trick although specifically wind resistant might be a bit of a non-starter.

Troll Omnis are available in something fairly close to crimson, and fit your criteria except they might be a wee bit too water/wind resistant and therefore a tad sweaty on a hot day. (They're 100% nylon, I think.)

Rab Torque pants are what you want. I requested they make a pair of bright trousers a few years back and they came up with the goods! Bright red and now there's bright yellow too. Rebel against the dirge of brown/grey/black!

Planet fear had some haglofs skarn trousers in red I think... And they should also be available in a green purple combination iirc.

Like Mr Fuller says the Rab Torque pants come in a nice jazzy red colour. I didn't know they now do a yellow pair too!

Mountain Equipment Javelin pant is another option. You get them in a nice two-tone blue.

Skarn pants sound like they are going to be too warm (brushed polyester lining) unless I have misinterpreted this.

Torque pants look like possibilities although, again, they sound like they will be a little warm if they are suitable for 'alpine north faces'.

To clarify matters, I'm after something a bit lighter than the ubiquitous Mammut Base Jumps.

The Mountain Equipment pants are pretty similar in weight to Montane Terra pants so they're not that heavy

Yeah, as with the ME trousers the Rab ones are much lighter than Base Jumps - the fabric's about 50 % of the weight and more like Montane Terras. I would say they were ideal for what you want but not ideal for Alpine North Faces!

The only thing is your belayer may start to suffer from head aches if they fail to wear sunglasses The pair I own have pale blue shapes on a bright orange back ground....it looks like I'm moving when I'm standing still
