What's the deal on the hill at the moment climbing wise?

Looking at the sais blog the crags look quite black compared to the last time I was over and they were buried.

What's in nick?

Cheers

Photos on my Blog and Facebook conditions album showing the Cairngorm Massif snow cover today, before it snowed this evening! Given the forecast and the current cover there should be lots to do in the grade 1-2-3 gully routes. Having said that the buttresses, ridges and ice routes are currently bare or broken but that should change, a bit?

It was me that asked on the talisman page earlier Ron.

Fingers crossed for Sunday. I'll wander in and see what we can get done.

Cheers for the update.

I'm just back from a wee skin up the piste to try new skis. Obviously can't comment on the climbing nick but...

The buttresses looked quite black from Loch Morlich on the way up but by 6.30 it was chucking it down with snow, blowing hard and -1 at the car park. Teams had been out climbing but didn't get a chance to chat to any.

It's not been cold for long so unfrozen turf would be my worry but worth a punt I'd say.

Cheers for the heads up Dave.

I know you weren't in the coire but have you any idea how the cornice is above the mess of pottage?

I'm hoping the thaw will have dropped some of them.

Plenty of teams out yesterday, especially on Fingers Ridge, with almost a constant que til mid-morning plus other teams scattered around the corrie, mostly on ridges and buttress routes - good neve mostly but with some fresh soft slab, most of the big cornices are still in place but with some large cracks in places, and very large glide cracks at the top of aprons - almost like bergschrunds.
