Hi, I'm thinking of going to Derry Lodge or to Glen Dee via White Bridge
Do you know if the tracks are clear enough of snow for cycling ?
Thank you, Alastair

This might give you some idea: http://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/webcams/braemar.asp
Looks like there is just a thin covering.

That's the main road to Perth Mark which is gritted, salted and ploughed.

Despite the recent thaw last weeks dump was a big one and the track in towards the Lairig will not be cyclable all the way.

Unlikely, someone more local than I, might be able to confirm. Consider phoning the Breamar toy shop and asking politely.

Last w/e ski's from the car-park in shin to knee deep show. Returning sunday the track was covered in ankle deep wet heavy snow and wetter waterlogged 'snow-porridge' and had been heavily walked, on compressing it.

Given the path on the otherside of the road on the web-cam above is white, would suggest that the landrover tracks are at best mush, or worse re-frozen

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that the tracks would be in the same nick as the main road! Just that it might give a general idea of snow cover at that altitude.

Thank you for all replies.
The road at the snowgate is about 50metres lower than half of the Linn of Dee to Derry Lodge track, so may be 3rd way up the hill in the background of snowgate photo would be an indicator.

We'll probably take our bikes , but have a plan b if they're not useable.

Plan B's are always good to have up here.

Took the cycles in the end, but was difficult cycling to Derry Lodge, cycling back was fine. More snow has possibly fallen since Saturday so maybe not worth taking bikes until weather improes. Alastair
