I wore merino sealskinz, but for all the good they did might as well have been barefoot. I don't think there's anything that can keep your feet warm in fell shoes in conditions like those. However warm the socks are normally, being surrounded by wet snow for hours on end doesn't give them much chance.
My big toes are still slightly numb, presumably nerve damage from a combination of cold and bruising.
My best decision was to take a spare waterproof top. My original one was hopeless and after 2 hours I was soaked to the skin. So I took off the wet clothes, put on my spare layers, and swapped to a Montane Minimus jacket, that kept me dry and warm for the next 5 hours.
Glad we opted for Score. I think the linear courses were a bit too long.
