Wadi Rum is in Jordan. Most of the routes are given alpine grades. It is magnificant and adventurous climbing in a spectacular wilderness area. Mainly long and serious routes that often have complex descents, the highlight being the traditional Bedouin hunting routes some over 2000 years old. No retro-bolting should be undertaken but recently development of new long sport multi pitches has taken place. Some abseil chains are bolted. There is little that can be done in the event of a rescue being needed though the Jordanian Airforce have been used before.
Many of these climbs can be quite hard to find and/or access. Contact Zidane Abdullah (+00962772136982) for an excellent and safe local climbing guide who really knows his stuff. https://bedouinnomads.com/ arosema93 - 27/Jan/17 |

I guess nobody is moderating!! Amazing place, take pitch by pitch French grades with a pinch of salt! It seems they give more of an indication of the hardest move rather than difficulty of over all pitch as French sport grade normally do. Descents are typically epic...take lots and lots of tat and a torch!! sebrider - 20/Mar/11 |
