Seen from a distance and well positioned above the waters lapping Pui O beach, are two prominent buttresses of pristine granite. This is Temple North and arguably the best multi-pitch sport crag in Hong Kong for lower grades.
Temple Crag is located on Lantau Island and reached by:
1. Taking the ferry from Central Pier 6, to Mui Wo then bus or taxi to Pui O.
OR
2. MTR to Tung Chung then bus or taxi to Pui O.
Whether arriving in Tung Chung or Mui Wo, both require onward travel to the coastal village of Pui O by bus or taxi. The first option (ferry to Mui Wo) is faster and there are restaurents and pubs in Mui Wo that provide a great way of rounding off the day prior to catching the ferry back to Central.
Bus versus Taxi to Pui O: any difference?
Either mode of transport works however taking a taxi eliminates a considerable amount of walking (up to 30 minutes) by dropping you off at the start of the Chi Ma Wan Country trailhead thereby saving you some uphill walking too.
Please DO NOT abseil in from the top. This puts climbers YOU CANNOT SEE directly at risk from rockfall.
Accessing the crag from the valley below is far easier, allows you to leave bags at the crag base and safer for everyone.
