Ascent on Nevado Sajama © pmemdacw
Nevado Sajama is the highest mountain in Bolivia and the 10th highest in South America. It is tucked away in the South West of the country near the border with Chile. The twin volcanos of Parinacota and Pomerape are close and on the border. The normal route is a steep in places trudge at no more than Scottish II.
International buses to Chile will drop climbers at the road to Sajama. Minibuses can then be taken to the town at the base, where accommodation, food and a place to stash kit can be found before walking in to base camp.
