1 mile north-east of the Grey Mare's Tail, the waterfall froms at the head of the Dob's Linn corrie.
This is a world famous geological site (SSSI) where Charles Lapworth, a Galashiels schoolteacher, provided geologists with the key to unlocking the mysteries of the Southern Uplands. He studied the fossil remains of tiny sea creatures called graptolites found in black shales which can still be found today.
Car parking is available at the Grey Mare's Tail, follow the Moffat water upstream for a mile or so. There may be very limited parking closer at the side of the A708 by some sheepfolds (NT197155)
