The prominent landmark provides a delightful mini-expedition in beautiful surroundings. The beach walk-in is particularly recommended.
Bantham is signposted from the roundabout 3 miles south of Aveton Gifford on the A379 Plymouth to Kingsbridge road. Park in the dunes car park for a reasonable fee (free in winter) and enjoy the delightful boulder-hop around the point to your objective. A more direct approach from the mainland cliff top is possible but less enjoyable.
A little suprised but very pleased to see the Bantham Hand still standing after the battering the coast has taken from the winter storms! Anyway it is a most excellent esoteric adventure and the following is a short video of the "crag classic" with the added bonus of a simu-abseil to descend:

Not sure if this is old new or not but climbed Bantham hand the other night and there was a big loose flake on the route. Half way up the route on the left of the vegetated gully, there is a greeny yellow flake that is definitely not attached! Something worth looking out for. Other than that, nice climb with amazing views. Cheers sparkoclimb - 10/Aug/11 |
